Steps to becoming a truly sovereign European web host

The lunchmeeting is an online meeting during lunchtime that you can attend from behind your desk (though from your couch or in the park works too).

This lunch meeting is presented by Ramon Fincken of Klarned.

In this session, we share general information about the AVG/GDPR and digital sovereignty/data portability.

We'll show the audience why websites are currently — and in the future — at high risk.

In addition, we'll share all of our insights and tell you everything about our stack and the choices we've made to be fully and truly sovereign within the European Union.

    Session introduction

Learn what true digital sovereignty means for web hosting. Gain valuable insights, learn from do's & don'ts, and discover what to look out for when your website needs a perfect GDPR/AVG-friendly hosting provider.

    Requirements

No specific prior knowledge is needed for this session. However, an active interest in digital sovereignty and technology will lead to a better understanding and more value from the session.

    Learning objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience will have a solid understanding of (data) sovereignty and data portability. Additionally, participants will know which steps they can take for their own stack or hosting provider.

    About the talks

You might not need JS — Cyd Stumpel

Motion on the web has come full circle: from simple CSS animations and transitions, to JavaScript libraries, and now back to CSS again. With Scroll-Driven Animations we’ll explore how modern CSS is reshaping creative development today and where you can replace JS with CSS solutions.

Cyd Stumpel creates accessible, creative, award winning websites for individuals and companies. Sharing knowledge is big part of what she likes about being a developer. She does that by blogging, at meetups, conferences and by teaching the next generation of web developers at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Shifting left on human rights — Dan Appelquist

The W3C integrates accessibility, security, and ethics into web standards. Inspired by UN human rights recommendations, this talk explores the W3C’s review process, its vital importance, and how these principles can be applied to other domains.

Dan Appelquist is an Open Source Strategist at Samsung and current co-chair of the W3C Advisory Board. He is an immigrant and US/UK dual national, living in London.

The W3C Code of Conduct applies to this event.
